SUMMARY:CANCELED - 20th Open Hanger Party & Fly-In at Massey Aerodrome
DESCRIPTION:REGRETTABLY\, We have cancelled the Massey Open Hangar Party & Fly-In scheduled for Sunday December 6 due to COVID-19.  This is especially distressful because it was the 20th Anniversary Fly-In (#1 was in 2001). I remember how excited everyone was as we decorated the shop (no Museum bldg. back then)\, Jim Douglass\, John Williamson & Jim Sypherd were Sooo proud of what had been accomplished in less than a year. We had a great turn-out too! Only 12 or 15 planes flew in but a lot of people drove in with Jim & John’s neighbors from Kentmore Park (Sassafras River) supporting us by bringing a lot of food. We were off to good start. According to my records there was fair skies and moderate temps. \nWe have a presence on Facebook now\, see what’s happening at the airport: https://www.facebook.com/MasseyAerodrome/

For many\, it was the start of their journey to becoming a pilot\, aircraft mechanic\, air traffic controller\, or many other career possibilities. \nYOUR FLIGHT EXPERIENCE  https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/aviation-education-and-resources/eaa-youth-education/eaa-young-eagles-program/eaa-young-eagles-flight-experience  \nYour Young Eagles flight will last approximately 20 minutes and you will see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way. This is your chance to experience the freedom of flight that many people only dream about. \nMany people remember this experience for the rest of their lives. You will\, too! \n1.On the ground: Your pilot explains what will happen during the flight. You may talk about the airplane\, review an aeronautical chart (or map)\, and complete a careful “walk-around” preflight inspection of the airplane. \n2.Just before takeoff: Your pilot explains the interior of the airplane\, including the operation of the aircraft door\, safety belts\, and instrument panel. \n3.In the air: The flight lasts between 15 and 20 minutes. And\, if you want\, your pilot may let you take the controls! \n4.Back on the ground: There’s more time for you to ask questions about the flight. Your pilot is happy to tell you more about flying and their particular airplane. \nYou also get an official Young Eagles logbook with a personal code to activate your free EAA Student Membership and Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course. \nAbout EAA  https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa \nOur chapter is part of the worldwide network of EAA chapters.  EAA embodies the spirit of aviation through the world’s most engaged community of aviation enthusiasts. EAA’s 160\,000 plus members enjoy the fun and camaraderie of sharing their passion for flying\, building and restoring recreational aircraft. Or maybe you’re curious how airplanes even work. You might even dream about being a pilot. If you’re nodding your head “Yes” and are between the ages of 8 and 17\, you’re ready to take a free Young Eagles flight and see what real pilots do on the ground and in the air. \nSince 1992\, more than 1.8 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight from EAA’s network of volunteer pilots. \nAbout EAA (Experimental Aircraft Assoc.)  https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa \nOur chapter is part of the worldwide network of EAA chapters.  EAA embodies the spirit of aviation through the world’s most engaged community of aviation enthusiasts. EAA’s 160\,000 plus members enjoy the fun and camaraderie of sharing their passion for flying\, building and restoring recreational aircraft.
